Autokit 3-HB test is an in vitro assay for the quantitative determination of 3-hydroxybutyrate (3-HB) in serum or plasma.
Product information
Autokit 3-HB Assay is an in vitro diagnostic (IVD) test for the quantitative determination of 3-hydroxybutyrate (3-HB) in serum or plasma.
Ketone bodies are substances metabolically produced from fatty acids in liver. The “Keton Body” refers to three molecules: acetoacetate, 3-HB, and acetone. 3-HB and acetoacetate transport energy from the liver to the other tissues and acetone is generated by spontaneous decarboxylation of acetoacetate.
One of the major applications of this test is the diagnostics of the metabolic syndrome. The presence and degree of ketosis can be determined by measuring blood levels of 3-HB. In diabetics, 3-HB measurements and blood glucose can be used for the assessment of the severity of diabetic coma and is essential for the exclusion of hyperosmolar non-ketotic diabetic coma. The measurement of 3-HB is also used to monitor insulin requirements based on existing hyperketonemia. Moreover, 3-HB has been evaluated for use in neurodegenerative diseases and inhibition of adipocyte lipolysis.
Autokit 3-HB Assay is a reagent to measure 3-HB with high sensitivity and high specificity by utilizing cyclic enzymatic reactions
Reagent 1 Set, Reagent 2 Set as well as a calibrator are required for this assay.
